Haematologist (Clinical and Laboratory)
Key Responsibilities
The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) seeks the expertise of a clinical and laboratory haematologist for developing their expeditionary health effects. The position aims for the specialist to provide input to current in-service haematology practices (primarily transfusion) and future advances in blood and blood products; in support of patient haemostasis.
The candidate will also be actively fostering and strengthening relationships with key legal stakeholders.
Essential Criteria.
Clinical and laboratory haematologist (preferably 5 years)
- RACP and AHPRA registered
- Knowledge and experience in transfusion medicine, including donor selection, blood product collection and preparation, product supply storage and distribution, pre-transfusion testing and transfusion safety
- Advanced knowledge and experience in coagulation, with keen interest in damage control resuscitation
- Desire to work with Air Force Scientific Officers – provide mentorship, technical reach back and overarching technical authority in provision of all haematological services, specifically transfusion
- Ability to work collaboratively with personnel across all clinical and non-clinical health roles and provide specialist technical reach back support (specialist reserves and permanent)
- Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills
- Able to reliably provide a minimum of 20 days per annum.
Desirable.
The following will also be considered when identifying suitable individuals:
- Hospital transfusion committee experience; including development and implementation of transfusion practice guidelines, clinical risk management, identification and management of transfusion reactions, haemovigilance and quality assurance
- Experience in setting up new test methodologies and responsibility for quality governance
- Haematology clinical research experience, ideally in blood products
- Experience in medical administration (e.g. Department lead)
- Established clinical leadership skills
